Lotus silk is one of the rarest fabrics in the world. This scarf features an original artwork that depicts Bhīṣma battling kings, with Ambā, Ambikā, and Ambālikā on his chariot.
Vicitravīrya soon grew up to be as beautiful as the Aśvins and powerful as the celestials. When it was time for his marriage, Bhīṣma learned of the svayaṃvara of the three princesses of Kāśī — Ambā, Ambikā, and Ambālikā — who possessed beauty rivaling the apsarās. In this ceremony, the princesses would choose their husbands from among assembled kings and princes. At Satyavatī's command, Bhīṣma set out for Kāśī on a single chariot.
Bhīṣma arrived when the names of countless kings were being proclaimed. On behalf of his step-brother Vicitravīrya, he chose the three princesses and lifted them onto his chariot.
Addressing the assembly in a thunderous voice, he explained how his actions were in line with Dharma.
Bhīṣma declared, “I invite you to fight me. Vanquish me or be vanquished! Here I stand, resolved to fight.” The assembled kings fought him in fury, but all were defeated. Śālva, king of Saubha, challenged him next, and Bhīṣma overcame him in a fierce, memorable battle.
With care, Bhīṣma treated the three princesses as “daughters-in-law, younger sisters, or daughters” and brought them to Hastināpura.
